Returning back here to post again (after a very long time - sorry about that) -- the things that make me smile now-a-days is finding old electric fans (preferably pre-1950's although there are a few exceptions) that I am able to restore to mint or near mint condition. I guess one could say that I'm a fan of old fans. They just dont make fans like these anymore and if properly maintained they will last a lifetime - even for multiple generations. So far the oldest fan I've completely restored and am actually using is a GE 3-speed oscillating tabletop fan having 12'' brass blades with a patent date of Nov 21, 1911 stamped (discovered this during rewiring) upon the inside its round cast iron base. As for my favorite refurbished electric tabletop fan so far, it's a Robbins & Myers (No.1604) 3 speed oscillating fan with 16' blades which dates to about the late 1930's. Preferably I try to save the original paint if possible when refurbishing but if it's too far gone for saving I will try to go back with as close match to the original as possible. Anyone else here a fan of old fans too? | |
